Kapil Taneja will share his work on building community with Qigong. He teaches Qigong practice weekly followed by tea and conversation in an open and welcoming environment at Toivo, a holistic healing and stress management center located in Hartford, Connecticut. It is a place where people come to heal, experience relaxation, and make friends.
Qigong at Toivo introduces participants to ways to connect to this mind-body wellness modality. Most sessions consist of simple Qigong movements to keep classes accessible for a diverse population who attend ona drop-in basis. Participants report experiencing a sense of calm and relaxation throughout the mind and body, which increases their ability to think clearly, respond to challenges thoughtfully and heal more efficiently. Sharing tea together afterwards provides time and space to assimilate, to feel heard and to be supported. Participants find strength, empowerment, and a sense of ownership over their experiences when they tap into their innate capacity to heal. Qigong and the following “Teatime” are offered free of charge or by donation to encourage attendance by all, regardless of financial means.
Participants can then, in turn, interact with more awareness and compassion in innovative ways in their lives, rippling the benefits to the community at large. Outside of Toivo, Kapil incorporates elements of Qigong in his professional work meetings to build teams and connect at a deeper level.
Kapil Taneja is a Qigong instructor and a small business owner based in Connecticut. First introduced to body, breath, and mind awareness at the early age of nine at a morning community yoga class at a park in New Delhi, he has explored mind-body practices ever since.
Kapil started learning Tai Chi and Qigong over twenty years ago with David Chandler of Eagle's Quest Tai Chi in Connecticut. Kapil went on to receive his Qigong teacher training with Deron Drumm at Toivo in Hartford, Connecticut in 2018. For the past five years, he has been studying Qigong and Tai Chi with Lorelei Chang, and was on the NQA Board in 2022.
Since completing his 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in 2016, Kapil is also a yoga teacher. In addition, Kapil leads mindful practices to his employees and business leaders for team building and to create a healthy work environment. Kapil’s focus is to make Qigong more accessible to diverse populations to help build communities.
