Winter Qigong practices focus on the organs of the Water Element: In your body, the water element particularly affects your kidneys, urinary bladder, fluids, spinal cord, bone marrow and brain. During this period, all of nature is in a state of stillness and hibernation. Therefore, it’s the best time of year to conserve your energy and nourish your qi. Qigong practices for winter emphasize stillness and inward reflection, sleeping longer hours, taking nans self-massage and maintaining internal warmth throughout the organs especially in the lower Dantian, which is your internal furnace.

Wuji as Foundation for Qigong Practice and Life

Marketa Foley

February 1, 2025

Wuji is one of the fundamental states of energy. Translating as “no polarity”, it is undifferentiated energy, without any order or direction. It is also often translated as “emptiness”. Yet within this emptiness exists the infinite potential for all things. It is the original energy that holds the blueprint for all life, the primordial soup of the universe out of which all 10,000 things arose.

In this online workshop, we will explore the felt sense of Wuji energy, accessing it through both stillness (Wuji Zhan Zhuang) and movement (Wuji Moving Set from Long White Cloud Qigong). First, using an enquiry-based approach, I will guide you to develop greater interoceptive awareness of postural elements of Wuji Zhan Zhuang. Next, we will move the body through a set of moving practices designed to release habitual holding patterns, thus allowing us to feel the Wuji energy state more clearly. Lastly, we will discuss how Wuji can support us in daily life.

All practices in this workshop are accessible either standing or seated.
