NQA Certification Program

What does the NQA offer?
Professional Member Certification is a benefit of membership in the National Qigong Association that provides an opportunity to inform the public of the depth and scope of the significant experiences that have helped mold the specialized careers of our members. Though certification is internal to the NQA as there is presently no national standard, it is supported by the full faith of our membership organization and may act to enhance and highlight one’s professional standing.

Who is eligible?
Professional members of the NQA in good standing are eligible to apply.

How do I determine my proper level?
There are two divisions to Professional Member Certification: Teacher and Clinical. The two divisions or tracks are described below:

Qigong Teacher Track

Level I Qigong Instructor: This denotes the initial level for an instructor of Qigong.

  1. at least 200 hours documented formal Qigong training

Level II Qigong Instructor: This level demonstrates deeper levels of Qi experience, a higher degree of cultural and intellectual understanding of practice, and a greater knowledge and appreciation of its benefits. This level not only provides instruction in technical forms but strives to increase in their students inner Qi-awareness and to improve their quality of life.

  1. at least 350 hours documented formal Qigong training

Level III Advanced Instructor: Compared to prior levels, the Advanced Instructor has deepened his/her Qi experience and has a higher level of understanding of the practice as well as a greater knowledge and appreciation of its benefits. The Advanced Instructor should be able to generate Qi, absorb Qi from the atmosphere, has trained his/her Qi. The advanced Instructor has built a strong energetic foundation through disciplined practice of Qigong and possesses an understanding of healing principles.

  1. at least 500 hours documented formal Qigong training
  2. at least 5 years Qigong teaching experience

Level IV Teacher: The Highest Certification Level Granted by the National Qigong Association. These senior practitioners have taught instructors of qigong or qigong clinical therapists for 10 years or more. They act as mentors for others in the field and are acknowledged senior practitioners by the NQA. This level is recognized to teach all levels of formal instruction.

At least 1000 hours of documented formal instruction in qigong and at least 10 years of qigong teaching and passage of an interview process is required. These interviews could take place at the annual NQA conference and needs to include at least three members of the Application Review Committee.

  1. at least 1000 hours documented formal Qigong training
  2. at least 10 years Qigong experience teaching teachers.
  3. must sit an interview with members of the Application Review Committee

A student of a level IV teacher has the option of, in lieu of listing course information from that teacher in the application, substituting a strong letter of recommendation from a Level IV NQA Certified Teacher that includes the number of hours of relevant instruction, general description of coursework, and descriptive comments about student ability.

Our publications may regularly highlight certified professionals with articles about them and their practice. You will receive a beautiful certificate for display so that the public/clients/students will know that you have been internally certified by the NQA. Please note that these benefits may change or be added onto without notice at any time, based on the needs of our members.

How much does it cost and for how long is the certification?
Initial certification extends for two years at a fee of $150 except for Level IV,Teacher which has a fee of $250 due to the needed interview. Renewals are $50 and extend for two years. An upgrade or add-on is charged $100 except for the Level IV Teacher which is $150.

Is there a requirement for continuing education for renewal?
Not at the present time, but a continuing education requirement for renewal may be initiated at some point in the future.

What is a didactic hour of instruction?
With regard to Qigong,  it would be considered to be instruction received in a class setting from an instructor rather than clinical practice with patients.

What if I receive additional training in the course of my certification?
If you wish, you may submit an upgrade. Just enter the additional information on a new application and send it in along with the appropriate fee. The supplemental application will be added to the information already in your file.

How long does it take after I send in the application?
With the exception of the Level IV Teacher, most applicants will receive a decision within 60 days of the full completion of the application.

What if my application is denied or I receive a lower level of classification than that for which I applied?
If the application is denied or if you receive a lower level of classification than that for which you applied, you are welcome to apply again after one year.
